GT Housing and Residence Life in coordination with the Office of Information Technology provides residents with wireless internet access as the default and most resourceful way to connect to the internet. Residents with unique needs that require a wired internet connection can make a request to activate their bedroom ethernet port. A small semesterly fee will be assessed for the labor, infrastructure, and maintenance of the wired connection beginning Spring 2024 as we use the Fall 2023 semester to evaluate the demand, labor, and maintenance involved. While student tuition and fees provide internet service, they do not support any infrastructure, labor, or maintenance costs associated with Housing spaces.
To submit a request, go to My Housing and submit a maintenance request. Select Electrical & Lighting > Ethernet Port Connection as the maintenance request Category and Item. Note that you must be checked into your housing assignment to submit a maintenance request.
Please note that the wired ethernet port does not provide “back-up” internet access should there be a failure with the wireless internet or power. There are few instances where the wireless internet is insufficient for student needs, and we recommend that students only request wired internet access if absolutely necessary.
