Laundry at Georgia Tech is free for residents. In order to keep our laundry facilities clean and functional, please follow these tips and recommendations. For questions or concerns about the facility or surrounding area, contact your RA.
Laundry Locations
Each residence hall has a laundry facility located within or adjacent to the residence hall and can be used by all residents living in the hall or area. Use your BuzzCard to access the facility!
Laundry Machines
Each facility is equipped with multiple washers and dryers for residents to use. To keep these machines functioning, please review these tips and guidelines.
How much detergent should be used per load?
- Small load: 1 tablespoon
- Medium load: 2 tablespoons
Excessive amounts of powder detergent being used in the soap dispensers causes the machines to oversud and triggers an automatic shutdown/locking mechanism. Once this occurs, residents should not attempt to force the doors open to retrieve their items. This triggers the machine to register an error and becomes inoperable.
What if I have a large load?
Laundry in the residence halls is free. Please do not overload the machine. Large, heavy loads require too much soap and do not clean properly and place stress on the appliance. Therefore, please split your laundry into smaller loads. There is no additional cost to run more than one cycle.
What should I do if my laundry cycle stops?
Do not force machine doors open if a cycle stops or the machine locks. Report the issue instead.
- Do not overfill the machines. This refers primarily to washers, since laundry is free to residents, we encourage you to have smaller loads, use more machines, or wash more frequently.
- Use the right amount of detergent in the right location. Students often overfill the soap dispenser and use more product than necessary. Excessive amounts of soap cause the machines to "oversud" leading to an automatic lock. When residents then force the doors open, the machines display an error message and the appliance goes out of service until aa technician can service it. The use of laundry pods is prohibited, we encourage residents to use liquid or powder detergent to increase the longevity of the machines.
- Pause the cycle before attempting to open the door. If you need to open the washer or dryer mid-cycle, they will need to pause the cycle before opening the door. The washers lock the doors during the cycle and can be damaged if a resident attempts to open it mid-cycle.
Facilities Request for Laundry Machines
If there is an issue with a laundry machine, it is important that a maintenance request is submitted as soon as possible. Residents should include the 6-digit identifier found on the machine so the technicians can repair the correct machine.
