Click the links at the bottom of the page to find a step-by-step guide to the application specifically for first-years, current students, and new transfer or new graduates. They highlight action items for you to complete during each step.
Each page inside the application includes a diagram at the top that indicates your current position in the process. You can use it to navigate between pages of the application once you visit them.
Application Dates: Applications open at different times of the year based on the application term and a student's status.
Academic-year and Summer-only applications typically open:
- December: newly admitted first-year students (specific dates will be listed here).
- September: current students - note that the application opening date for current residents falls approximately two weeks before the application opens to all Georgia Tech students (specific dates here).
- March: new Transfer and new Graduate students (specific dates here).
Spring-only applications open in October (specific dates here).
Application Terminology:
Apartments: upperclass housing is typically apartment style, in which two to six residents have individual bedrooms but share a common kitchen, lounge, and bathroom within a suite.
Application fee: You will only pay this $80 (USD) fee once, so on future applications you'll see a note that "records show you've paid before" - even if it's been a while since you lived with us. This fee is non-refundable, even in the event you cancel your housing contract.
Cancellation fee schedule: The fee for cancelation varies depending on timing. Review carefully and note the dates of when penalization starts.
Current resident: any student who currently lives in the residence halls at the time of application.
Current student: any student who is already enrolled and completing coursework at Georgia Tech including transfer and graduate students.
First-year student: a newly admitted, first-time college student, who will matriculate to Georgia Tech in the coming summer or fall.
Family: undergraduate or graduate students who will live with their spouse/partner and/or dependent child or children. Available spaces are unfurnished, 1 or 2-bedroom apartment at Tenth & Home Residence Halls.
New Graduate: a newly admitted graduate student beginning their graduate studies in the coming summer or fall. This includes undergraduate students who continue into a graduate program after completing their bachelor's degree.
New Transfer: a newly admitted student transferring from another institution in the coming summer or fall (not to be confused with established transfer students).
Rising Second-year: a sub-section of "current residents", rising second-year students includes any student continuing from their first-year as a student and resident into their second year in the coming summer or fall. These residents are the first to apply in the current student application cycle to allow those students most in need of the support found in campus housing to secure bed spaces first.
Traditional Halls: these halls belong to the First-Year Wellness Experience, in which two residents (sometimes four) share a bedroom. These halls include either a suite-style bathroom that serves two bedrooms, or a community bathroom on a gendered floor.
Tips for Completing the Housing Application:
- Research our Living Learning and Gender-Inclusive communities in advance. Some communities have dedicated residence halls to be aware of, and most have additional steps required to apply to join.
- Housing for upperclass residents will be awarded via the housing application lottery. We neither require nor guarantee on-campus housing for students, so if you are serious about living on campus, be prepared to apply as soon as applications open for you.
- If you experience technical issues with My Housing:
- If it is the first day that the application has opened to a new group, the system may be overwhelmed. Try again in a few minutes as needed until traffic subsides.
- If the application access has not recently expanded, contact our team at the Housing Help Desk.
- A completed application is required to receive a time-ticket for self-assign, which gives you your place in line for selecting a room. Time tickets are assigned:
- To current students according to credit hours. The more credit hours you have, the earlier you get to select your housing and the more choices you'll have.
- To incoming first-year students by randomized self-assign time-ticket.
- Any applicant placed on the waitlist will not receive a time-ticket until taken off the list.
