Beginning 2025-2026, Graduate Students were notified that they would be limited to one academic year contract term and one summer contract term. Students living in family housing were limited to two academic year contract terms and two summer terms.
We encourage eligible residents to consider exploring off campus housing options through our Off-Campus Housing website, and make careful consideration about if on-campus housing is the right choice, barring eligibility. Please note, the lottery is not to determine if you will receive on-campus housing - returning students will continue to receive self-selection time tickets for room selection based on the number of credit hours accrued at Georgia Tech as a matriculated college student.
When does my one- or two-year contract term begin?
If you secured on-campus housing for the 2025-26 Academic Year, that was the start of your term limit. Graduate students who lived on-campus for the fall 2025 and spring 2026 terms will not be eligible to participate in the 2026-27 housing application lottery. Graduate students who lived on-campus for the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters can remain on campus for the summer 2026 term.*
Families who lived on-campus for the 2025-26 Academic Year are eligible to participate in the 2026-27 housing application lottery AND can remain on campus for the summer 2026 and summer 2027 term.* Family residents must apply for Academic Year 2026-2027 Family Housing to be eligible for their second contract term.
*Summer residents are still required to complete a summer term housing contract.
How does the housing lottery process work for returning graduates?
Current residents will be notified via official Georgia Tech channels when their time tickets become available. Students are encouraged to complete the application before the posted deadline to provide the best chance in securing housing. Students can apply after the posted deadline, applicants will be added to the end of the waitlist in the order they apply.
How does the housing lottery process work for family applicants?
Returning students applying for family housing must apply by posted lottery deadline to be eligible for housing. Assignments will work with returning family residents on their housing assignment for their second contract term.
Why do I need a time ticket to apply for the housing application?
Students will receive a time-ticket to submit their housing application to ensure a smooth application process. This approach helps prevent a rush on My Housing and reduces the risk of the website crashing. It’s important to note that applying first does not guarantee housing. There is no need to be the first to apply as all students who apply by the posted deadline have the same chance of securing housing. Time tickets will be distributed based on your legal first name and spread out over the first few days of the application opening. This lottery application window will remain open until the posted deadline and applying as soon as your time ticket opens does not increase your chances of securing housing. This system is designed to provide everyone with an equal opportunity to apply without the stress of a first-come, first-served model.

Will there be Off-Campus Housing Fairs to support my search?
Yes, we will host at least two Off-Campus Housing Fairs this fall. One will be during Family Weekend on September 19 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the Student Center. We will also host a fair in the Tenth and Home Community in mid-October. More details to come.
Can I choose to stay in my current assignment for the next academic year?
Assignments will work with returning family residents to determine eligibility to “stay-same” and live in your current assignment for the upcoming contract. Other programs or facilities related issues could impact your current assignment's availability. You will be notified if you are eligible to choose "stay-same" during the room selection process.
We encourage you to review the General Lottery FAQ Knowledge Article for additional information regarding how the lottery process will work. Notifications about the housing lottery will be communicated via official Georgia Tech communication channels.
