We understand being on the waitlist can be stressful. Many students ask about their probability of getting housing in hopes of making educated decisions about how to proceed. It's important to remember that students are assigned from the waitlist as other students cancel their housing, and while we typically see some cancellations in spring, it is often the end of spring to mid-summer when most cancellations occur. In order to maintain an accurate and responsive waitlist, reduce administrative delays, and ensure that housing offers are made to students who are actively seeking placement, students will be required to re-certify their desire to stay on the waitlist throughout the spring. This process will occur in January, March, and June.
As demand for on-campus housing increases, it becomes difficult to use historical data to predict "if" a waitlisted student will get housing. We simply do not have enough data to make predictions. Therefore, we encourage students on the Housing Waitlist to begin reviewing Georgia Tech's Off Campus Housing Resources, to understand options and prepare a "back-up" plan.
In addition, we host an information session specifically for students that are on the waitlist and a housing fair where students can meet nearby property managers to learn about amenities, lease terms, and other information each semester. The Waitlist Consideration Request Form will open once the waitlist is announced (found at My Housing in "Resources") and is an opportunity to provide Housing and Residence Life with information regarding a student's particular situation. Completing the Waitlist Consideration Request Form does not guarantee a student will receive priority or housing.
