A limited number of first year students are given the opportunity to live in an apartment for the academic year. Apartments are available first-come, first-serve based on the student's time ticket (date their contract was signed) until designated apartments are full.
The group leader can assign the roommate pair to an apartment. However, roommates must agree to the terms below to select an apartment. Please contact your roommate to discuss this option. If you both cannot agree to the terms below, you will need to find a new roommate before roommate selection ends or you will be assigned a roommate by the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
If either student decides they do not want to live in the apartment after self-assign ends, please contact the Housing Help Desk.
First-Year Learning Community students must live in their assigned buildings and are unable to select an apartment.
Requirements for First-Year students assigned to an apartment:
- I understand that should there be inventory available in a traditional residence hall prior to August move-in, I will be re-assigned to an open first year traditional space as the apartment option is for overflow only.
- Understand that I am financially responsible for the housing I am assigned at move-in. The apartment rate is $4,950.00 per semester.
- Purchase a First-Year Meal Plan regardless of whether I live in an apartment or traditional residence hall.
- For an apartment, I will live with three or five other First-Year students. Students will be able to select only one additional student to form their roommate pair within the apartment to share a bathroom.
- If I remain in an apartment, I am required to attend additional meetings with Resident Assistant (RA) and/or Hall Director (HD) to ensure successful transition to the Georgia Tech community.
Georgia Tech strives to create a home away from home for all students. Community development is essential to a successful transition to the Georgia Tech community. Even though the apartments have a full kitchen, students are required to purchase a first-year meal plan to encourage community building and interact with other first-year students beyond their apartment. Students often use the dining halls as spaces to study and work on projects in groups, so having a meal plan will help facilitate those meetings. First-Year students residing in an apartment will also be required to attend additional meetings and programming with RAs and/or HDs to ensure they have access to all of Georgia Tech’s resources to ensure a successful transition to the community.
Students living in an apartment are responsible for providing kitchen essentials and cleaning supplies. Students must clean their own rooms and communal areas.
